The aim is to highlight the importance of forests in terms of health. They purify water and air, capture carbon in the fight against climate change, produce life-saving food and medicine, improve our well-being.
But forests are under threat. According to the FAO:
– The total number of plant species used for medicinal purposes can reach 50,000.
– Several studies have proven that a visit to a forest lowers blood pressure and pulse, as well as lowering cortisol levels.
– Between 2015 and 2020, more than 10 million hectares of forest were lost as a result of deforestation and fire destroyed close to 98 million hectares of forest worldwide.
– Insect pests damage about 35 million hectares of forests every year.
It is up to all of us to protect this precious natural resource. The sustainable management and use of forest resources is essential for the prosperity and well-being of current and future generations. Furthermore, forests play a key role in combating poverty and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
“Did they get you to trade
Your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?” (…)
