Baião City Council cleans and disinfects rubbish bins

Baião City Council is carrying out the last washing and sanitising of rubbish bins (undifferentiated solid urban waste) for 2024 throughout the municipality. This work is being carried out in collaboration with a company specialising in the sector.

The intervention includes more than 1,000 containers distributed throughout all the parishes that are part of the municipal rubbish collection circuits. In places that are difficult to access, where the cleaning and disinfection lorry is unable to operate, the bins will be gradually replaced by the municipal services. This process, which has been repeated four times this year, is due to be completed on 18 December.

The containers are washed and disinfected both inside and out, using products with bactericidal and insect repellent properties. This process, promoted by the municipality since 2013, has the main objective of improving health and cleanliness in all parishes, without interfering with the normal operation of rubbish collection or the use of the bins by residents. Thanks to the efficiency of this procedure, the bins will be available for use again in no time.

An appeal to citizens

The effective management of waste services relies on the contribution of all citizens. Therefore, Baião Town Council calls on residents to:

Place household rubbish in well-sealed bags, preventing loose waste from dirtying the bins or causing bad odours.
Make sure that the lids of the bins are always closed after use, helping to keep the equipment in good condition.
Look for an alternative container if the nearest one is full, and avoid throwing rubbish out of it.
Adopt the principles of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
Baião Town Council emphasises that caring for the environment is everyone’s responsibility.

Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
