Following proposals presented by Mayor Paulo Pereira, the Municipality of Baião has joined three networks aimed at fulfilling the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.
The mayor explained the presentation of the proposals – unanimously approved at the Town Hall Meeting – considering that ‘working together with organisations, bodies and partners, side by side with science and research, is fundamental to implementing innovative solutions and guaranteeing a more sustainable future. The common goal is to constantly improve the quality of life of our populations and safeguard the planet,’ said Paulo Pereira.
OwnYourSECAP
Through the ‘OwnYourSECAP’ project (membership proposal approved on 25 September) in cooperation with the Institute of Systems and Robotics of the University of Coimbra (ISR-UC), Baião is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing territorial resilience and combating energy poverty. The ‘Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan’ (PAESC) is being drawn up, with the support of ISR-UC, aimed at climate change mitigation and adaptation policies.
ODSlocal Platform
By joining the ODSlocal Platform (approved on 9 October), Baião is helping to mobilise municipalities, local agents and citizens around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The platform offers functionalities such as the management of good practices, access to indicators and annual conferences.
European Cities for Climate Network
By joining the European Cities for Climate Network (a proposal approved on 27 November), Baião is committing to climate neutrality by 2050, in line with the principles of the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda. The network aims to accelerate the transition to climate neutrality, recognising the impact of cities on global emissions.
Baião thus reaffirms and strengthens its commitment to sustainability and climate neutrality, recognising the need for profound changes in all sectors of society.
