Baião Chamber reinforced recycling bin network

The municipality of Baião, in partnership with Resinorte SA, installed, during the month of March, 5 new recycling bins in the municipality, now counting on a network of 123 pieces of equipment, distributed across all parishes, with a proportion of 143 inhabitants per recycling bin.

“ We continue to take care to place recycling bins strategically, in order to provide the best service to the people of Bahia, but also to encourage recycling and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill ”, explained the councilor responsible for the Environment, Henrique Ribeiro.

The equipment was installed in places that produce a greater amount of waste and in parishes that had a lower ratio of recycling bins taking into account the number of inhabitants.

Thus, the new recycling bins were placed on Rua do Fojo – União de Freguesias de Ancede and Ribadouro; Rua do Campo – Santa Marinha do Zêzere; street dr. Francisco Sá Carneiro – Loivos do Monte; Rua do Lameirão – Gôve; and on the road to Nossa Senhora do Martírio (Corujeiras) – Union of Parishes of Santa Cruz do Douro and São Tomé de Covelas.

The Municipality of Baião has been making every effort to promote the separation of waste, through various awareness campaigns in schools, at events, in the media, in commerce and services, through the distribution of ecobags in parish councils , delivery of equipment to associations, among others.

Despite this, it appears that there have been no practical effects of these campaigns, with recycling values being below what is desired and necessary in order to achieve the intended goals.

In order to reverse this situation, the City Council calls on residents to separate waste using available equipment, namely recycling bins, bio-waste containers, piles, containers for used cooking oil and textile containers. The same appeal is aimed at residents using door-to-door collection services for domestic “monsters”, construction and demolition waste, and green waste.

The Environment department reminds us that “embracing sustainability is everyone’s responsibility”, calling on citizens to contribute towards a greener and more sustainable future.
