The municipality of Baião was awarded the Municipal Excellence Award in the Culture category, an initiative of the Social City Programme, with the MACC Baião being recognised as a museographic, cultural, educational and scientific project. The award ceremony took place during the ‘II Social City Congress’ held on 25 September at Europarque in Santa Maria da Feira.
‘This recognition highlights the work carried out since the Cultural Centre was inaugurated on 21 April 2023, but also the previous efforts, in a process that relied on the commitment and dedication of many people. It is also a way of reinforcing the role and relevance of the MACC, not only as a cultural centre in Baião, but also for the region and with international projection,’ said Anabela Cardoso, Councillor for Culture and Tourism.
The Municipal Excellence Award aims to emphasise the importance of public policies which, as well as improving the quality of life of citizens, contribute to the sustainable development of territories. By highlighting and recognising the quality of these initiatives, the award not only exalts good practices, but also inspires other municipalities to follow successful examples, adapting them to their specific realities.
The creation of an Observatory of the Dynamics of Portuguese Municipalities, based on the applications submitted, will make it possible to monitor and share the good practices identified, promoting an environment of learning and collaboration between municipalities, to the benefit of all.
In the context of the Congress, the municipality of Baião was also invited to present its certification process as a sustainable tourist destination, under the theme ‘Baião: Municipality with Sustainable Tourist Destination Certification. The Process Over Time’. The presentation was given by Dora Pinto, coordinator of the ‘Green Team’, the team responsible for this certification process.
