The Municipality of Baião recently acquired an electric light goods vehicle, equipped with a crane and cargo box, to reinforce the intervention capacity of the waste management subunit.
This new vehicle will support door-to-door collection services, with a special focus on the collection of green waste, bulky household waste and construction and demolition waste.
The purchase was financed by the Environmental Fund and is part of the municipal strategy to promote sustainability and energy efficiency, contributing to the reduction of pollutant emissions and more effective management of urban waste.
With this investment, the Municipality reinforces its commitment to environmentally responsible practices and the continuous improvement of the quality of services provided to the population.
Henrique Ribeiro, Councillor for the Environment, pointed out that ‘the reinforcement of the fleet optimises collection services, with clear gains in terms of operability, safety and environmental quality.’
The acquisition of this vehicle is also part of a plan for the gradual renewal of the municipal fleet, replacing older vehicles that are already showing signs of wear and tear, thus ensuring the continuity and quality of services.
Two new electric vehicles are also scheduled for delivery during the week of 10 to 14 November, two Citroen e-C3s, as part of the fleet renewal that has been carried out during this term of office.
These three vehicles will join those purchased between 2021 and 2025, contributing to the modernisation of the fleet with more modern and environmentally friendly vehicles:
In 2021, an Opel Mokka, a Hyundai Kauai, a Toyota Verso and a Volvo truck were purchased.
The following year, the local authority acquired three Toyota Versos, two Dacia Springs, a tractor trailer, a backhoe loader, a Case mini excavator and a 4×4 double cab pick-up.
In 2023, two Opel Vivaros were acquired and in 2024, three Renault Trafics, an Iveco double cab van and a Volvo lorry.
