World Tree Day and International Day of Forests

Today is International Day of Forests, this year with the theme ‘Celebrating Forests and Food’. It is also World Tree Day.

On this day, it is essential that we reflect on the vital importance of our green and forested areas.
Forests purify the air we breathe and play a crucial role in preserving biodiversity and combating climate change.

They also contribute to food security, nutrition and livelihoods. As well as providing food, fuel, income and jobs, forests sustain soil fertility, protect water resources and offer habitats for biodiversity, including vital pollinators.

But forests are under threat from deforestation and fire resulting from human activities.

It’s up to all of us to protect this precious natural resource. Sustainable management and use of forest resources are essential to the prosperity and well-being of current and future generations.

Protect our forests for a green and wooded future!
