Baião Town Council launches annual plan for the cleaning and sanitisation of bins

In February, Baião Municipal Council began the first round of washing and sanitising of unsorted municipal solid waste bins for 2026.

The initiative covers nearly 1,500 bins spread across all the parishes in the municipality. Three further cleaning operations are planned throughout the year, reinforcing the commitment to hygiene and the quality of the service provided.

The washing and disinfection are carried out on both the inside and outside of the bins, using antibacterial and insect-repellent products, ensuring better hygiene standards without disrupting the normal waste collection service. Thanks to the efficiency of the procedure, the bins are quickly made available for use.

In hard-to-reach areas, where the cleaning and disinfection lorry cannot operate, the bins will be replaced or sanitised gradually by the local authority’s services.

Appeal to residents:

  • Adopt the principles of reduce, reuse and recycle.
  • Place household waste in properly sealed bags, avoiding mess and unpleasant odours.
  • Always keep bin lids closed after use.
  • Use an alternative bin whenever the nearest one is full.

Caring for the environment is everyone’s responsibility.
