Ana Raquel Azevedo, Mayor of Baião, was elected chair of the Steering Committee of the Serra da Aboboreira Regional Protected Landscape for the 2025-2029 term.
The Steering Committee now also includes Fernando Moura e Silva, councillor for the Municipality of Amarante, and Nuno Pinto, vice-president of the Municipality of Marco de Canaveses, ensuring the representation of the three municipalities covered by this protected area.
The election took place on 19 January in Baião, during a decentralised meeting of the Steering Committee.
After the election, Ana Raquel Azevedo emphasised that ‘the exercise of this mandate is based on a commitment to the enhancement, protection and sustainable management of the Serra da Aboboreira Regional Protected Landscape as a natural and cultural heritage site that is important for the territory and for future generations’. She also noted that ‘the work of the Steering Committee will be carried out in coordination with the municipalities, seeking to ensure a balance between nature conservation, sustainable development, cultural promotion and the involvement of local communities.’
The Steering Committee is responsible for administering the specific interests of the Serra da Aboboreira Regional Protected Landscape, implementing the measures provided for in the respective management instruments and ensuring compliance with the applicable legal and regulatory standards. The body meets ordinarily twice a year and may meet extraordinarily whenever convened by its chairperson.
