Get involved in the Municipal Environmental Education Strategy – Contributeyour suggestions

On World Environmental Education Day, celebrated every year on January 26, the
Municipality of Baião reaffirms its commitment to building a more sustainable future by
creating a Municipal Environmental Education Strategy.
On September 25, 2015, the United Nations approved the Sustainable Development
Goals (SDGs), which redirect humanity towards a path of sustainability for the planet –
the 2030 Agenda – under the slogan of “leaving no one behind”.
Organized into framework principles, the so-called 5Ps – People, Planet, Prosperity,
Peace and Partnerships – the SDGs reveal an integrative and holistic vision of the
various dimensions of sustainable development – economic, social and environmental,
with the aim of ending poverty, promoting prosperity and well-being for all, protecting
the environment and combating climate change.
In Portugal, the National Environmental Education Strategy (ENEA) highlighted the
need for a comprehensive document that incorporates international and national
references, aligned with the sustainable development policies implemented over two
decades.
Based on three thematic axes – making the economy circular, decarbonizing society
and valuing the territory – the Municipal Environmental Education Strategy (EMEA) is
an essential document for the environmental and sustainable development of the
municipality, capable of shaping mentalities, inspiring action and promoting more
resilient and sustainable societies based on the 2030 Agenda and the process of
certifying Baião as a Sustainable Tourist Destination.
In this way, the EMEA aims to be a key tool in educating all citizens about sustainability,
with a view to creating an active, aware and informed citizenry, empowering children
and young people, but also civil society, economic agents and institutions by promoting
local actions with a global impact, from a “Think global, act local” perspective.
The strategy is available for public consultation here.
