400 trees planted in Serra da Aboboreira

In a partnership between the Municipality of Baião and Quercus, an environmental association that is developing the project “Create Bosques”, on 19 November, 400 trees were planted in the Aboboreira mountain range.

The reforestation action with pine, beech and birch trees, offered by a company linked to the manufacture of automation machines, had 25 participants, namely the vice-president of the Chamber, Filipe Fonseca, the councilor for the Environment, Henrique Ribeiro, members the “Green Team” – the team responsible for managing the certification process of Baião as a “Sustainable Tourist Destination”, a representative of Quercus, elements of the forestry brigade of the Intermunicipal Community of Tâmega e Sousa, representatives of the company that donated the trees, citizens of the war refugee community welcomed in Baião, among other people who wanted to join the initiative.

The Councilor for the Environment, Henrique Ribeiro, underlined the importance of this action, referring to it as “another initiative that falls within the line of sustainability followed by the Municipality, pointing towards an increasingly green municipality. Green is the new destination!”, stressed the mayor.

Baião, the municipality in the Porto district with the largest green area, occupying around 69% of the territory, continues to carry out actions to promote the environment and defend the forest. On the 23rd of November, the Municipality’s Green Day was celebrated, in its 10th edition, a date that coincided with the Day of the Autochthonous Forest, with the municipality delivering trees to the population, until the 25th of November.
