In line with environmental and sustainability policies, and following European Union legislation that requires the separate collection of textiles from 1 January 2025, the Municipality of Baião is at the forefront of complying with this directive.
Since 2010, the municipality, in collaboration with parish council presidents, has been promoting the collection of textiles, toys and footwear.
Every year, through a protocol with a specialised company, around 20 tonnes of clothes, shoes and toys are collected.
Most of the products collected are reused. When this is not possible, they are sent for recycling, with only a small fraction going to landfill.
The Municipality of Baião appeals for your co-operation for a more sustainable future. Recycling is essential for protecting our environment and ensuring a healthy planet for generations to come.
Although we have made progress, we still have a long way to go to reach the necessary targets.
