Serra da Aboboreira Regional Protected Landscape: Thematic seminars discuss different dimensions of Aboboreira

The promotion and recognition of Serra da Aboboreira as a Regional Protected Landscape will serve as the motto for three thematic seminars, to be held in January and February 2023, promoted by the Association of Municipalities of Douro and Tâmega.

The first seminar will take place in Amarante, at the IET Auditorium (Instituto Empresarial do Tâmega), on January 12, under the theme “Regional Protected Landscape of Serra da Aboboreira: The process, challenges and opportunities”.

Scheduled to start at 2:00 pm and end at 6:00 pm, the seminar will feature two discussion panels: “Regional Protected Landscape of Serra de Aboboreira: motivations, process and challenges” and “Opportunities and challenges in the implementation and management of the Protected Landscape”, performed by several specialists and scholars.

Cristina Vieira, President of the Board of Directors of the Association of Municipalities of Douro and Tâmega, highlights the enormous wealth, diversity and uniqueness of a territory that is increasingly asserting itself as unique. “As a region with unique biodiversity and geodiversity, with a unique geological, geomining and paleontological heritage, associated with terrestrial and river ecosystems and the observation of protected birds, Serra da Aboboreira is a treasure that must be disclosed, valued and preserved”.

Divided into the three municipalities covered by the Serra da Aboboreira and the various themes to be developed, the seminars will take place in Amarante, Baião and Marco de Canaveses, in which specialists in each area will address the characteristics and properties of the territory.

In February, it will be the turn of Baião and Marco de Canaveses to continue the initiative, with the Seminar “Natural Heritage”, on the 2nd, and “Cultural and Landscape Heritage”, on the 23rd, respectively.
