Mountains are terrestrial ecosystems with a great biodiversity of fauna and flora and that have a cultural uniqueness.
Its preservation is essential for many animal species that find a natural habitat in the mountains.
This day, implemented through Resolution 57/245 of the UN General Assembly, aims to raise awareness of the conservation of an ecosystem pressured by human activity and climate change.
The conservation and sustainable management of mountains is reflected in the “Sustainable Development Goals”.
