The participation of students from the three school groups in the municipality of Baião in the ‘A Raposa Chama’ initiative was recognised with significant distinctions: the students from the Eiriz School Centre were awarded 1st Prize in the 1st Tier, collecting a value of €500, while the students from the Campelo School Centre won 3rd Prize in the 2nd Tier, with a value of €150.
These prizes are the result of the Municipality of Baião’s participation, in July 2024, in an activity to publicise the ‘A Raposa Chama’ project, as part of the ‘Portugal Chama’ national campaign. The main aim of this campaign is to raise awareness and educate children and young people about fire risk behaviour, promoting environmental awareness among their families and communities.
The municipality of Baião was challenged by AGIF -” Agência para a Gestão Integrada de Fogos Rurais “(Agency for the Integrated Management of Rural Fires) to take part in the 1st National ‘Raposa Chama’ competition, aimed at primary school pupils from the municipality’s three school groups. The theme of the competition was ‘How can you protect a space you value from rural fires?’, encouraging creativity and the involvement of young people in preventing forest fires.
The project was promoted by the AEC (Curricular Enrichment Activities) teachers, who motivated their students to take part and committed themselves to making the proposals a reality. As a result of this collective effort, each school group submitted an application with a model alluding to nature and fire protection.
The Municipality of Baião congratulates all the students, teachers and those involved in this project, emphasising the initiative’s positive impact on training new generations to protect our natural heritage and prevent rural fires.
