The Municipality of Baião and the Parish Councils of the municipality will collaborate in the provision of 1000 sets of “Ecobags” to the citizens of Baião.
Each set consists of three bags for different types of waste: a bag for glass, another bag for paper/cardboard and a third bag for plastic.
This initiative is a gesture to raise awareness of the importance of waste separation and recycling and will be followed by others in the coming months.
In case the bags run out, there will be a registration form so that people can register to receive the bags at the next opportunity.
RECYCLING RATE IS RISING IN BAIÃO
The placement of recyclable waste in Recycling bins has increased a lot in Baião. Between 2015 and 2020, there was a 48% growth in the placement of recyclable materials in Recycling bins in the municipality.
In 2020, there was an increase of 8.8% compared to the previous year, with 627 tons of recyclable waste deposited. There are currently 100 Recycling bins in the territory of Baião. “The purpose of these bags is to allow an easier separation of recyclable waste at home, then providing transport to the Recycling bins. If we recycle, we are protecting the environment and reducing the amount of waste that goes to landfill”, explains the councilor for the environment of the Municipality of Baião, Henrique Ribeiro.
