Since the beginning of the year, over 200 hectares of scrub have been cleared in Baião by various entities in the mountains, forests, and vegetation strips along the roads.
These indicators were released during the last meeting of the Municipal Forest Defense Commission, held on June 4, and at which the Municipal Operational Plan for the coming forest fires season was approved.
The cleanings carried out are foreseen in the Municipal Plan for the Defense of the Forest Against Fires and aim to reduce the amount of forest fuels in the municipality.
The City Council of Baião cleaned 52 hectares of forest paths, in the mountains and vegetation strips along the roads.
The municipality also collaborated with the Forester Sappers Brigade of the Tâmega e Sousa Intermunicipal Community (CIM – TS) and the Forest Sappers of the Entre Douro e Tâmega Forest Association (AFEDT) in carrying out controlled fire and cleaning actions in the mountains Aboboreira and Castelo de Matos.
