The first ten elements that will integrate the project “Patrulha Baião”, promoted by the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth (IPDJ), attended on July 22, a training action that will allow them to perform functions in the scope of Nature and Forest in a more efficient way.
The young volunteers received essential information on how to proceed in case of fire, or suspicious cases, in garbage collection and in raising awareness among the population. They were also given a kit, an identification card, containing useful numbers and pamphlets, which they should distribute to the population.
The initiative has three shifts, in each one volunteers will be coordinated on groups of two at the watch points provided by the Municipal Operational Plan for the Defense of Forest and Nature against fires.
It should be remembered that the Youth Volunteer Program for Nature and Forests is aimed at citizens residing in Portugal, aged between 18 and 30 years old, and promotes voluntary practices within the scope of nature preservation, forests and respective ecosystems, through raising awareness of the population in general, as well as preserving forest fires and other disasters with environmental impact, monitoring and recovering affected territories.
