Second meeting of the ANMP Section for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was held

The Green Team, the team responsible for the certification process of Baião as a Sustainable Tourist Destination, represented the municipality at the second meeting of the Section of Municipalities for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the ANMP – National Association of Portuguese Municipalities, held on 27th of January, in Coimbra, which had as its main subject the presentation of the Action Plan of the Section for the current municipal mandate.

The Section, which currently comprises 77 municipalities, approved the action plan presented, comprising five priority axes: Local Voluntary Reports; ODS Equity Financing Framework; Training and Qualification of Technicians and Elected; Internal and external ODS communication and LABS ODS, national HUB and lusophony.

With the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, member states committed themselves to working closely with local and regional governments in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As part of its monitoring and review mechanisms, the 2030 Agenda encourages regular and inclusive reviews of progress at national and subnational levels, which are country-led.

Portugal presented its first National Voluntary Report (RVN) in 2017, at the United Nations High Level Political Forum for Sustainable Development. In the RVN, the existing legislation and policies, strategies and plans that contributed to the implementation of the SDGs were identified, considering the European framework in force.

Now it’s time for local authorities to demonstrate their commitment and commitment, through the preparation of Local Voluntary Reports (VLRs), a fundamental instrument to monitor progress and sustain the transformative and inclusive action of local actors for the fulfillment of the SDGs in general and competitive sustainability in particular.

The Municipality of Baião expressed its full availability to collaborate in all aspects of this action plan, presenting contributions and suggestions, as well as developing all the measures in preparation. The premise will always be continuous improvement, making Baião a reference territory as a sustainable destination, in a balance between the environment, the economy, people’s well-being and our traditions and culture.
