Students from the Baião School Groups celebrated World Tree Day with various outdoor activities

World Tree Day was celebrated in Baião, in a fun and cheerful way, in contact with Nature, on April 3, by 150 students in the 6th grade of basic education from the three groups of schools, Southeast, Vale de Ovil and Eiriz, with various activities, integrated within the scope of the Municipal Education Project, promoted by the Education sector, in conjunction with the Sports sector and the Forestry Technical Office.

The Councilor for Education of the Municipality, Anabela Cardoso, underlined the importance of celebrating the date, “in our municipality, which has in the natural heritage one of its pillars of development”, highlighting the symbology of the actions carried out and “the direct contact of our children with Nature is essential to make them aware of this richness, so that they become involved in its preservation and enhancement”.

The initiatives were always carried out outdoors, being divided between the river leisure areas of Outoriça and Fraga do Rio, places where extreme games were held, such as slide, paintball and tree climbing, as well as traditional games.

The forest brigade of the Intermunicipal Community of Tâmega e Sousa, elements of SEPNA – Services for the Protection of Nature and the Environment and GNR, promoted the planting of trees with the children and carried out actions to demonstrate means and awareness. A nature walk was also carried out between the places where the activities took place.
