A ‘Sorveira’, a tree that symbolises the valuable natural heritage of the French city, was planted this morning next to the monument alluding to the twinning between the Municipality of Baião and the Municipality of Cormeilles-en-Parisis, in the town where the municipality is based, offered by local authority officials as a sign of friendship and sharing between the two communities. The official moment was attended by users of the Autism Unit of the Vale de Ovil School Group.
Paulo Pereira signalled the symbolic moment of ‘sharing and unity between the two communities’, also stressing the inclusive aspect of this action.
The mayor of Baião also emphasised the gesture made by those responsible for the Cormeilles-en-Parisis municipality, revealing the gift of a tree that is also typical of our municipality and the region, the Alvarinho Oak, which will enrich the local landscapes.
In a letter sent to the mayor of Baião, the ‘Maire’ of Cormeilles-en-Parisis, Yannick Boëdec, said that the ‘Sorveira’, the town’s symbolic tree, represents the ‘strengthening of the ties that unite the two communities’, wishing it to ‘grow and flourish in the same way as the partnership between the two towns’.
Since the twinning protocol between the municipality of Baião and the French town of Cormeilles-en-Parisis, located 17 kilometres from Paris, was signed in 2018, there have been many shared experiences, with the presence of local officials, local authorities and representatives of various organisations at events and initiatives on both sides.
